In this weeks episode we debut our sub-series called "Collector's Corner" in which we discuss the world of sports card and memorabilia collecting. In our inaugural episode we discuss the collecting background, habits and projects of our very own Tanner Parmentier. He discusses how he got into the collecting world, what is personal collection looks like, what he is currently working on and some of the items that are in his collection. The hope with this sub-series is to eventually interview other fellow collectors to get insight on them as well.
Ep. 6 - Is the Rebuild Working in Detroit?
In this weeks episode we take a look at the rebuild of the Detroit Tigers. First we take a look back at the beginning of the rebuild and the players GM Al Avila has traded away (00:45). After discussing who has been moved, we discuss a couple trades in which Avila may have been inpatient in making the move (01:25). Next we get into the meat of this episode where we discuss whether or not we believe the rebuild is working (02:35). Also, we determine whether or not this rebuild should be a 5 or 10 year plan and why (02:55) aspects like the managerial position, development of prospects, the desperate need for offensive players and power bats are necessary to have a successful rebuild. Next we discuss the remaining players left on the current roster that could be dealt away to help the rebuild (04:50). Following the discussion of trade assets we take a look at whats going right within the system (06:45); the life in Double-A Erie, the promising players on the Mud Hens roster and the 2018 draft. As we close out the episode we discuss what the overall goal of the rebuild is (09:30) and take a look at what other teams in the same position have done in the past. Finally we discuss the fact that Detroit fans must be patient with the process.
Ep. 5 - Detroit Tigers Trade Deadline Rumors
In this weeks episode we break down some of the trade rumors surrounding players on the Detroit Tigers roster. We open the episode discussion which players have been linked to discussion thus far (01:12). Following the list of players connected to trade talks we identify the teams linked to these discussions (01:33). Next we quickly discuss Michael Fulmer and why he likely will not be dealt by the July 31st trade deadline (02:50). With discussion of Fulmer placed on the back burner we take a look at why the players listed off at the beginning of the episode may be intriguing to teams look to add players (03:05). After breaking down why each player is a good trade target we take a look at why each team linked to the Tigers may be looking to add the player they are interested and what prospects the Tigers could look to get in return (06:20).
Ep. 4 - The MLB All Star Game is Broken
In this weeks episode we break down the 2018 MLB All Star Game and what is wrong with the current process. First we lay out the starting lineups for both the AL and NL (00:44) closely followed by our opening statements about how the All Star game is broken (01:44). While we believe Joe Jimenez is deserving of his roster spot (01:53) we believe that Nicholas Castellanos was robbed of his first All Star selection and we explain why (02:29). Following our explanation of why Castellanos was robbed we lay out reasons why two of the reserves of the AL roster that did not deserve to make it over Casty (03:15). Later we discuss how the All Star game is essentially a popularity contest (4:45) and voting issues that come along with this mentality. Just before we end we break down why Bryce Harper isn't an All Star in our opinion (06:11) tying it back into why the game is broken. Following the Harper discussion we discuss the All Star snubs of 2018 (07:10) and we end this weeks episode by breaking down why the All Star system is broken (09:42) and what we think can be done to fix the voting proccess (10:50).
Ep. 3 - The AL Central is a Dumpster Fire
This week we break down the Dumpster Fire that is the American League Central division. We start off taking a look at the overall standings of the division (00:52). Once we paint the picture of the standings we dive into why we believe these teams are struggling as much as they are (01:30). Soon after, we dive into what is a possible outlook of the number of 100 loss teams this division may have after 162 games (03:15). Later we discuss how the Detroit Tigers are able to beat up on sub .500 teams, keeping themselves close to a .500 overall record (03:57) and then we break down four key team stats that have attributed to this divisions downfall in 2018 (04:50). We also take a look at how the AL Central teams compare to the other two division (07:29) and then compare the 2018 AL Central to the MLB worst 1994 AL West (08:27). We finally end the episode breaking down what we feel to be some of the bad payroll decisions within the division (09:37).
Ep. 2 - Trading Fulmer?
In this weeks episode we break down whether or not the Detroit Tigers should trade away their Ace Michael Fulmer. We start off with a quick recap of the Dave Dombrowski fire sale (00:33) that launched this rebuild process. Then we take a look at Fulmer's career thus far (01:18) followed up by some discussion about our concerns of Fulmer's health (02:54). We give a list of players who might be considered available by the deadline (04:15) closely followed up with a list of teams who may send offers the Tigers way and who Al Avila may ask for in return (06:13). Finally we close with some discussion about the No. 1 draft pick (11:35) and end the episode discussing the minor league pipeline in regards to pitchers (13:20).
