Boston Red Sox announce Rookie Carl Yastrzemski to start season in Left Field; will succeed Ted Williams .
Yastrzemski would go on and play a 23-year career with the Red Sox. In that time, he would go on to be an 18x American League All-Star, 15 of which were consecutive from 1965-79. He would also win the American League MVP while takin the Triple Crown in 1967. Yaz also earned 7 Gold Gloves and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.
Carl ended his career as a member of both he 3,000 Hit Club (3,419) and 400 Homerun Club (452). He also never had a 100-strikeout season at the plate.
