Honus Wagner was born.

Wagner had a 21-year playing career, a majority of which was with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wagner ended his career slashing .328/.391/.467. He collected 3,420 hits, clubbed 101 homeruns and 252 triples while driving in 1,732 runs. Wagner put together seven seasons in which he stole 45+ bases and 16 seasons during which he hit over .300 on the year.

Wagner became one of the first five players elected to the Hall of Fame in 1936. He also became the first baseball player to have his signature branded into a Louisville Slugger bat in 1905.
