OPINION: Detroit Tigers should change/add jerseys

I’m going to lay an extremely unpopular opinion on you today, the Detroit Tigers should change their road uniforms and add a third (alternate) to the mix. I know I know; the Tigers have a long rich history, and they rarely change the look of their uniform and they’ve, essentially, never dabbled in the alternate game, unless you count things like the Negro League and Tigres jerseys as alternates. For me, it just feels like it’s time for a change. The club came out and surprised everyone in 2021 with a 77-win season, it’s the second year of manager AJ Hinch and thus far this offseason team owner Chris Ilitch has started to open the pocketbook and spend some money! So, with all this new change, and a new culture being cultivated, why not step away from the old and add a little new to the pile when it comes to the uniforms?!?!

Don’t get me wrong, the current jerseys are great, but let’s add a new wrinkle to the organization! I’m not proposing any change to the home whites (and no I don’t want to go back to the previous Old English D, leave it at the current D), and the proposal for the road uniform is to simply go back to the same uniforms were introduced in 1972 and worn through the 1984 season. The other thing I’d love to see Detroit do is add a third alternate uniform into the mix! I’d like to propose a navy jersey with “Motown” across the chest, see below!
